If you’re a wine lover or even just someone looking for an extremely instragrammable experience in the Tuscany region, let me tell you about the Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Chianti Classico region, this place is a must-visit, especially if it’s your first time exploring Italian wineries. You’ll definitely want to go for the innovative architecture of the winery, but there’s so much more to see and taste. Grab a glass, and let’s dive in 🍷

The Antinori family history
Before we get into the wine (which is fantastic, by the way), I want to talk a bit about the Antinori history. The Antinori family has been involved in the art of winemaking for over six centuries, dating back to the Middle Ages. Yep —since 1385, they’ve played a significant role in shaping the wine world.
It all began in Florence, where the family started as silk merchants before venturing into wine. Over generations, they’ve maintained a fundamental role in Italian wine production, preserving traditions while embracing innovation. Visiting the Antinori winery, you can explore the family’s private collection, the modern wine library, the amazing restaurant on the grounds and the museum area, which showcases their rich heritage and works of art.

The ultra-modern architecture of the winery
The innovative architecture of the new winery does stand out! It’s definitely not your typical rustic Tuscan vineyard. The Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery is a futuristic masterpiece with a great spiral staircase to match. Built seamlessly into the hillside, the design is both eco-friendly and aesthetically stunning – and yes, incredibly instragrammable, so make sure to pack your chagers. The inside of the winery features sleek lines, lots of wood and glass, open spaces, and plenty of natural light.
Walking through the Antinori estates, you’ll learn a lot about the traditional elements of winemaking. You’ll get to enjoy the panoramic views of the rolling hills and vineyards, and the modern building contrasting it all but blending in so seamlessly. It’s a perfect blend of old and new, much like the wines they produce.

The wines of Antinori: the birthplace of Tignanello
Of course, we have to discuss the most important part – the wines. The Antinori family is famous for producing the legendary Tignanello, one of the first Super Tuscan wines that revolutionized Italian winemaking. This wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
Although, the most popular in mainstream, Tignanello isn’t the only star born here. The winery produces a range of exceptional wines that cater to both wine enthusiasts and casual wine lovers (that’s me).
During my visit, I had the chance to try:
- Tignanello (2021): The iconic Super Tuscan that put Antinori on the map.
- Conte della Viperva (2023): A belnd of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon
- Guado al Tasso (2021): An elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc.
If you’re wondering which wines to try, definitely put Tignanello at the top of your list. It’s not just about the wine; it’s about the piece of history.

The wine tasting experience
Now, let’s get into the wine tasting itself. I attempted to join one of their Chianti tours into the Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico Cellar, but unfortunately, they were all sold out (and we were there early). So here’s a pro tip: book your tickets well in advance! The tours offer an exclusive peek into the inside of the winery, including the wine cellars and the family’s private collection.
But in case you miss out on the tour, there’s the tasting room, where you can taste and purchase some of their finest wines. The room itself is a super cool mix of modern and earthy vibes, enclosed in glass, offering a unique view over the vineyard outside. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable, and helpful.

Why you should go
So, why should you make the trip? Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a newbie in the wine world, the Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery offers an experience that’s both educational and enjoyable. The winery plays a significant role in Italy’s wine history, and visiting it gives you a deeper appreciation for the art of winemaking.
The combination of history of the Antinori family, the innovative architecture of the winery, and the exceptional wines makes it a unique destination. Plus, the views of the rolling hills are simply breathtaking.
